Sr Systems Engineer
Summary
Under indirect supervision, provides advanced Windows-based Server and SAN/NAS maintenance, complex problem analysis and resolution, and in-depth technical expertise. Professional, communicative, extraverted and responsive customer service attitude and commitment to working in a team environment is essential.
Duties & Responsibilities
Implements and supports the company IT Server and SAN/NAS initiatives. Ensures that the Server and SAN infrastructure are effectively managed to support business requirements, optimizing the costs and benefits of these services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Architecture and management of all servers and maintenance including servers and applications (AD, Exchange, file/print, etc.)
  • Candidate will implement, configure, support, and document all Server hardware, which includes installing hardware and software, ongoing support of systems, security, distributing applications and operating system upgrades, and file system configuration.
  • Performs routine hardware and software maintenance and assists in proper upkeep of systems.
  • Evaluate computability of storage and backup technologies with new Server hardware, operating systems and application
  • Develop and maintain Server and SAN/NAS needs for disaster recovery site
  • Develop test plans to perform regularly to test Server, SAN/NAS, and application redundancy, failover, and ensure performance in a disaster scenario
  • Maintain tools to monitor, alert, and report on Server and SAN/NAS health and assist the business in reporting on customer SLAs
  • Implement and maintain Server and SAN/NAS security via Windows or other vendor tools
  • Coordinate and recommend all Server and SAN/NAS procurement needs
  • Maintains applicable records including administrator accounts, security, and equipment inventory.
  • Perform daily administration and management for Network Appliance SAN/NAS including zoning, storage allocations, HBA support, upgrades, and troubleshooting SAN related problems/issues.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Relevant IT qualification and minimum of 5 years of IT experience in Server and SAN/NAS administration.
  • Experience with Dell hardware, Network Appliance SAN/NAS, Veritas NetBackup, and Windows Server 2000/2003 is required. Experience with Veritas cluster solutions a plus
  • Excellent management and interpersonal skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying new technologies and designing critical systems which have helped corporations achieve low downtime and higher performance. Must have experience supporting a 24x7 production environment
  • Experience in the Trading industry is a plus.
  • Sun Solaris experience a plus.
Experience implementing and supporting the following technologies is critical:
  • Expertise and experience in designing, implementing, migrating, administering and documenting Server and SAN/NAS infrastructures is required. Existing technologies include Dell Servers, Network Appliance SAN/NAS, Windows 2000/2003, clustering technologies, and operating system configurations, and associated administrative software.
  • Experience with MS Exchange 2003, Active Directory 2003 and Veritas NetBackup and clustering software.
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP networking, and security
  • Understanding of infrastructure monitoring tools and experience proactively monitoring networks and report SLAs (uptime, response time, etc.) to the business
A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Knowledge of the trading industry is a plus.
