R.J. O'Brien's IB Group consists of experienced individuals who have earned the respect of colleagues and competitors alike. Listed below are brief biographies of the key members of our team.

Mary Ellen Scanlin
  • Mary Ellen has proudly served at RJO for over 20 years. She is the Chief Executive Officer of the Introducing Broker Division of RJO as well as being an Executive Vice President and officer of the firm. Her current responsibilities include business development and marketing, public relations, and co-managing the retail division. Her past experience includes 6 years on the trading floor of the CME, implementing and managing RJO’s NY trading desk, serving as corporate operations manager, then in 1990 began working extensively with the IB, CTA, FCM and Institutional communities in a marketing capacity.
  • Mary Ellen holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Barat College, Lake Forest, IL.
James (Bugz) Brooks
  • Having been brought up into the commodities business with his father (RJO’s first IB), Bugz began his career at RJO during his collegiate summers, working on the trading floor of the CME. He graduated from Drake University in 1983 with a double major in accounting and finance. After earning his CPA accreditation, he decided to pursue his passion in the futures markets. Bugz has been a member of the CME since 1984. During his career at RJO, he has been tremendously instrumental in the growth of the livestock business for R.J. O’Brien. RJO has consistently ranked at the top for volume traded in the livestock quadrant. Bugz has also served on numerous CME committees. His hard work and diligence has earned him strong recognition in his field.
Jane S. Obermoeller
  • Jane Obermoeller began her career in the futures industry in 1964, when she joined Clayton Brokerage in St. Louis, MO. For 23 years, Jane served in various capacities for Clayton including Vice President of Associate Services. After Clayton closed in 1987, Jane joined DeLong International, Inc. as Vice President. While at DeLong she was responsible for the supervision of all brokers, including a large discount desk, as well as the coordination of back office functions and compliance. Jane joined R.J.O’Brien in October of 1988 as Director of Client Services. In June 1995, Jane became Senior Vice President of Client Services. Jane has been a registered broker since 1972 and has served on the Board of the National Introducing Brokers as an FCM representative.
Matt Heidkamp
  • Matt, currently the CBOT Operations Manager, started with RJO in December 1994 working as a runner. He advanced through RJO ranks to phone clerk, desk manager, and eventually to floor manager for RJO’s entire CBOT operation. He has worked mainly with Introducing Brokers across the country, but also has experience with commercial and institutional hedge funds as well. He has been a registered floor broker since 1999 and can fill customer orders upon request. Under his leadership, RJO has become one of the most technologically advanced and most active firms at the Chicago Board of Trade. Matt is a graduate of the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana.
Katie Hanley
  • Katie Hanley, Marketing Representative since October 2001 in the Introducing Broker Division, brings new business to RJO and works closely with IBs during their transfer process. She holds a Series 3 Registration and is a member of RJO's Annual IB Conference Committee. She also spearheads our two annual Broker Training Programs. Katie started at RJO in 1997 in the Margin Department. She worked with Introducing Broker's on a daily basis during her three years in that department. She then moved on to Institutional Customer Service, dealing with the day-to-day operations for institutional, as well as, commercial agriculture accounts. Katie attended DePaul University, where she studied political science and played volleyball on an athletic scholarship.
Makenzine Billings
  • Makenzie first gained interest in the futures markets by working summers in her fatherŐs IB office. She officially got her start in the futures industry in 2003 when she began working with Cargill Investor Services as a runner and then as a phone clerk on the CME Livestock floor. Makenzie joined R.J. OŐBrien in January of 2006 after Cargill sold to Refco and Refco closed in late 2005. She has served RJO as a Phone Clerk on both the Livestock floor and Global Desk and joined the IB division in November of 2006. Her current responsibilities include solicitation of new business as well as customer relations.


    Makenzie holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce with an emphasis in Finance from DePaul University, Chicago, IL. She also holds a Series 3 Registration.

Allen Lovitt
  • Allen B. Lovitt started his career in the futures industry with Barnes Brokerage, as a broker, in 1969, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In the 1970s Allen served Barnes as a Broker, Branch Manager, Ranch Manager and Floor Trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. In the 1980s Allen was with E.F. Hutton & Company as Regional Futures Manager. Allen returned to Barnes Brokerage in 1990 as Executive Vice President, General Manger then joined RJO in 1998 as Senior Vice President. Allen was one of the founders of the National Introducing Brokers Association and has served on various NFA, CME, and CBOT committees as well as a NFA Arbitrator.
Joanne Rizzio
  • Joanne first became associated with the commodity industry in the mid – 70s by working on the CME floor in the cattle pit. She joined Jack Carl & Associates in 1976 and during her employment became a registered CME floor broker and a key employee in the development of the firm by providing her expertise in back office and floor operations. In 1987, she joined First Commercial Financial Group, Inc. as Vice President of Operations and soon became Chief Operations Officer. In 1995, she formed her own corporation – I.B. Consultants, Inc. – which provided industry related services to IBs and FCMs. Joanne happily joined the Marketing Department of RJO in January, 2002 and assists with business development, marketing projects and various compliance issues.
  • Joanne received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri.
